Entertainer Until You Read These Hiring Tips:

Hiring a professional children's entertainer or magician in New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts or anywhere in the Northeast can either make or break a special event. As not all entertainers are created equal, finding the right one for your event is absolutely essential. Therefore, I’ve put together a summary of the sorts of details you may want to consider when researching an entertainer or magician 4 kids for your next party or event.  
 
There are a few rules of thumb you should bear in mind when you are seeking an entertainer in the New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts area.  Please don't overlook these important factors...
 
Talk to your entertainer before your event. A truly professional, top-notch entertainer will speak with you personally before your event in order to personalize the entertainment to your specific needs so that your attendees are guaranteed the best possible event.  In other words, don't book a performer just because they have a great looking website.  Talk with them to insure that they have a fun and outgoing personality.

As mentioned, not all entertainers are created equal. You are likely to encounter a series of paid advertisements for party and event entertainment, but finding a quality entertainer is the hard part. Many entertainers are part-timers who entertain on the weekends to supplement their 9-5 incomes. When planning your event, a "full-time" entertainer is your best bet, as they will have the most experience and they will have a vested interest in making your event the best it can be. After all, "full-time" entertainers are going to have more experience than someone who just performs part time on the weekends. 
 
Make sure that you seek out an entertainer who is good with children. Not everyone can captivate children while creating memories that will last a lifetime. Not all entertainers truly understand or work regularly with children to truly understand what it takes to keep their attention. Given the short of attention spans of children, you want to make certain that you choose an entertainer who has a proven track record of success when working with kids. An entertainer whose experience involves mostly working with adults is unlikely to be able to retain the attention of young ones for 5 minutes, let alone 45 minutes. So make sure that the entertainer you choose likes kids and has a truly animated, fun-loving style. A David Copperfield sort of mysticism may seem fascinating to you, but there’s a reason he performs in Las Vegas and not on Sesame Street. 

A Jack-of-all-trades is generally a master of none. Particularly when you’re hosting an event for children, entertainers who advertise their versatility frequently disappoint. Someone who works with all sorts of groups may seem like an added benefit, but if you have an event for children, your best bet is to choose an entertainer who works only with children. They have the most experience with kids, know how to interact with them, and make a performance truly magical. For an entertainer who works with children, the show is not for the children — it’s about the children. Just like a pediatrician specializes in treating kids, so should the entertainer you hire.  

Any entertainer worth his salt will be able to provide references. Entertaining a young audience is no easy task, so booking an entertainer who is just starting out is a risky endeavor and one that you should not take a chance on. All good entertainers will be able to provide references on request from past clients. Be wary of those who cannot or will not give you any references or recommendations.

You get what you pay for. The better entertainers are worth paying for, even in a tough economy. The price of a good entertainer generally reflects the quality of the services they offer. So, while a less expensive entertainer may reflect a financial savings, the rule of thumb in the children’s entertainment industry is that the cheaper the rate, the poorer and the more limited the performance. If you hire someone because of their "great price" but they end up putting the kids to sleep,  you've actually overpaid.  If pay a little more for a "full time professional entertainer" and the kids, adults and even the teenagers have a great time,  you've gotten a great deal.  In other words, "good" and "cheap" simply don't go together.   
 
Unfortunately, reading this report is the easy part: Finding children's entertainers in New York (Albany, Westchester County, Saratoga Springs, Fairfield County, and other MA areas) who are perfect for your event is the challenge. But let this report serve as a guide, and you’ll be well on your way to making an informed decision for your next party or event!
